He is an internationally recognized colorectal surgeon who served as President of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons (ASCRS) (1994-95), President of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and was founding President of the Canadian Society of Colorectal Surgeons (1982-86), and Vice Chairman - Advisory Council for Colon and Rectal Surgery, American College of Surgeons from 1992 to 1995.
