Only, it's a lie. A terrible lie to hide the pain of rejection. A lie that no one in her pack, her family, or her tight-knit group of friends suspects. Iliana holds her agonizing secret tightly as she forces herself to move on, to survive, to thrive, all without the male who chose her sister Georgina over her at her side. She has no need of such a faithless male.
Her mate disagrees. Sean caused his fated truemate excruciating pain and will never forgive himself, so how can he possibly ask it of her? Inexcusable betrayal tastes wrong in his mouth, but worse is the knowledge that if Iliana's lie is exposed, it will be the she-wolf who suffers the consequences.
The pack is facing a threat from a hidden foe, a group of mad scientists kidnapping and murdering she-wolves. When their next luna is a human, an alpha female must be chosen. It is Iliana's natural spot, and she intends to fight for it, but a MateLess she-wolf can't hold a position of leadership in the pack.
Their alpha suggests a bond between two young, MateLess wolves, Iliana, and the younger brother of the next alpha, Braxton. The two are already close friends, and the attraction between them has always bloomed. When Braxton lost his own mate at a young age, it was Iliana who comforted him. Now, the young male is eager to mate with his closest friend.
Iliana's secret can't remain hidden forever, but the threat to the pack is only growing. When the tower of lies comes tumbling down, who will bear its weight? And can the three find a way to deal with a love triangle they are a part of?

I wasn't a fan of how young most of the main cast was - barely out of high school if at all, yet they were taking on major leadership roles in a mature pack. I had to start skimming at 70% of the book because the FMC Iliana was chosen to be the new because of her work ethics, but she didn't know how to communicate and was not able to physically defend her new title. She had to be coached by her then still-partial mates. I eventually had to quit at 72% when Iliana was overseeing the fights and she was more worried about what she was wearing rather than competition.... I couldn't stand having to spend another hour to finish the book.
The main menage relationship was very uncertain for a significant portion of the book, and the drama dragged on way longer than it needed to. I thought all of Sean's (and some of Braxton's) nicknames for Iliana were very infantilizing and not romantic at all. I didn't like the random MM hints suggested at the end for a "cohesive" relationship between the trio.
Villain-wise, I didn't understand Georgina's role in the family - she was the favored adopted child by Iliana's parents in the beginning until she suddenly wasn't without a super believable reason. If they didn't believe Georgina's lying and abusive behaviors for years, why would they suddenly believe that she finally crossed a line when confronted with a boyfriend that wasn't really her mate no matter how much she protested and assumed?
The previous books were more unique takes on rejected mate tropes, especially with taboo relationships, but this one really didn't work for me.
It’s around this book that I realized that the author is going in an overall direction that I abhor. Even though the heroine is supposedly of high rank, she is helpless and infantilized for most of the book. Not only that, the author edited out some of the things from the Wattpad version that helped to balance this impression. Trust me when I say that the series gets worse as far as this goes, with the heroines being helpless and damaged and the H’s talking like creepy pedophiles.
Her earlier books always had a fair amount of submissive/omega stuff, but now it’s the entire plotline. I also agree with the reviewer who pointed out that recent books include a plotline involving a large number of very young women who have been murdered. It’s creepy.
Very disappointing.

I wish I could have loved this, but I just didn't. The drama between these three just dragged on forever. It just became so boring after awhile. Our H is a large, strong beta wolf. Yet there is no show of this in the entire read. It was such a waste of finally having a strong H in this authors books. Being snarky, stubborn and bratty is not what I'd describe as strength in someone. Its a deflection pretty much the entire read, and was a total let down.
Like all this author's books, this story was engrossing and unputdownable.
The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because Bailey and Conner were such strongly likeable characters to me that I felt Iliana and her mates paled in comparison.
That's not to say it isn't a great story. It has rejection, angst, some OW drama (no cheating), characters who are survivors and is a mfm.
This book started off very well Ot hooked me from the first line Soon, I found myself reading 40% Great hurt Extreme hurt and betrayal, actually
And then it went downhill It dragged on and on and on With so many repeated internal monologues and needless scenes And I just couldn't continue I DNFed at 70%
It was an entertaining enough book. I chose to read it because I wanted to read something lighter, and I suppose it met that criteria. The main thing I had a problem with is that I couldn’t sympathize with Sean. Despite his internal monologue of regret, and Iliana’s eventual acceptance of what he did to her, I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief to consider him deserving of her love and forgiveness. I also found the abundance of nicknames to be exasperating (again, I’m looking at you, Sean). I never understand why writers do this. Some of the nicknames made no sense. It was just really unnecessary. Also, there were certain things which seemed important that weren’t really explained or resolved. The ending was particularly strange. Jarring, really. I enjoy a steamy well-rounded werewolf story from time to time, but this seemed to capitalize off the stereotypical sexual aspects of werewolves more than anything else (going into heat, marking, etc.). I would have liked a little more focus on the werewolf dynamics and a little less focus on relationships. I did, however, find Braxton to be very entertaining and likable. I love a character who can make me laugh and he did that. I think I would’ve liked Iliana to end up with him, but in this story’s universe, I get why she accepted them both. At the end of the day, I think this book is best for people with specific kinks and interests. If mfm, RH, and/or public sex appeal to you, go for it. As for me, I need more wolf-i-ness.
Good book. Still not totally sure why Sean was lured to Georgina. I don't get how DNA was supposed to accomplish that, not to mention you can't change DNA after the fact. Nor do I understand Iliana's dad saying that Georgina tried to kill Iliana multiple times before they were 6 (and Georgina's) DNA was changed. Why would Georgina try to kill her sister before age 6? How would someone conspire with a small child? There was other inconsistencies too, like the treat of bad things happening if people found out Iliana lied about being mateless. People found out. Nothing happened (about that). If Sean's mom and dad were so concerned with his obsession with Georgina as a small child, why would they drop it?
I just could not get over the fact that the MFC was 18 and was appointed to be the packs Beta. She graduated from HS and two weeks later gets chosen over everyone. Why Is A female who can’t fight or hardly eat a meal or give a speech to the pack, picked to be the alpha second in command over everyone else for the second highest power spot in the pack? She was weak in every way. And it made no sense.
I refuse to believe that any 18 year old is more capable of running an entire community than a responsible mature 30 year old ADULT.
I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a series in progress. There was no world building; I didn't understand terms or the rules and traditions of the wolf pack and there were no explanations. For example, Braxton had a "mating crisis" but there is no explanation of exactly what that is or why it happened.
Once I started skimming and not understanding the decisions being made AROUND the FMC, I DNF'd.
FMC is the poster child for body betrayal syndrome.
Took a quick perusal of other reviews, and a reviewer mentioned that this book started off as a wattpadd creation, and everything made so much more sense.
Like so many shifter/PNR authors, this author chose to have very dumb nicknames for the FMC, even when they know she doesn't like the name, or the name is associated with bullying. I've started to realize that the less mature authors use nicknames as crutches and this book further solidifies that point. As with most KU authors, this author doesn't know how to format terms of endearment correctly. PSA to the author: terms of endearment are not capitalized unless their placement in a sentence warrants it. Correct: "Here, drink this sweetheart." Not correct: "Here, drink this Sweetheart."
FMC's name: Iliana Nicknames: doll, baby, babydoll, my Ili-girl, Ili, babe, honey, doll-baby, baby daisy, daisy, love, my gorgeous doll, Babydaisy, Lili, pup, pumpkin, sweetie, sweetheart, babylove, beautiful babydaisy, Lee (make that one make sense), My sweet pup, and Ili-doll. Between two MMC's, we get 18 nicknames, very few are formatted correctly.
The MC's are vile people, just trash. One MMC tries to forcibly mark the FMC and she forgives him after a day. Her "truemate" threatens to rape the FMC in front of her father and mark her because he has all the power. The truemate gets angry every time he is reminded he slept with FMC's sister. He feels like just because he apologized, that should be the end of it. And the one who tried to force a mate mark? Ended up doing it during her heat and can't figure out why she doesn't trust him.
FMC is the weakest person out there. She refuses to stand up for herself, she refuses to put up boundaries, and she refuses to hold the MC's accountable for their actions. She gets angry when people treat her like a child, but still acts like one.
What a wonderful story. At least it looks like we have a wrap-up of all the she wolf kidnappings and murders and both councils are debunked. There were some spelling mistakes in this book, like Gerald being called Gerard and Rushclaw Pack, sometimes called Rushowl, which is very small but unusual for this author. The world building is always good. Steamy scenes more at the end but long enough to enjoy. The author brings more emotions through the bonds after biting and not fully claiming yet which I like because most authors forget it's a important part in shifter mating stories readers like me want to read and feel like we are there too and this author does it very well. It was a shame Mina Blu and Teague were not in this or Lynall, Braxtons family considering Sean and Ilianna had an oncore. And wow, Sean's parents were Melissa and Nate from Teagues book 1 Sean's dad was also tricked with a fake mate Alice. There are so many secrets, lies, and new beginnings. Bailey is so smart and funny in this one, especially disappearing from all the Alpha females or just in general. Alpha Alex can be annoying, especially how he guilt tripped Illianna to try and take both males without her feelings being considered. I did feel like Braxton said in this story that he didn't want to be a triad like in Teagues his dads story, and we'll it really was in a way similar. Multiple POV are appreciated, too. The council is evil, but it was the first time I learned they were in a group of two in Louisiana and one in the North near alpha Inuit at RushClaw.
The plot was good. It was just poorly written and executed. And weirdly enough, the writing quality just steadily declined as we reached the end. The final 25% was so ridiculous that I started highlighting errors and nonsensical sentences.
Crucial information was dropped all Willy nilly. Like the fact that their bond allowed them to suddenly sift through one another’s minds was pretty much mentioned as an afterthought.
The writing was so awkward and at times childish. To the point where one of the MCs literally said that ppl would see that “Georgie-porgy was a liar liar pants on fire.” I mean, come on.
SPOILER:……..
what was the point of the mom dying in the end? There was no point. It was barely even touched upon afterwards so unless it’s a weird set up for some book that I absolutely won’t be reading in the future, there was no point.
2.5 stars, and I’m being generous because it was a decent idea and a followable plot line. I probably won’t read this author again. Not for me.
I liked Iliana's Choice better than the last few releases. Although there are still some odd editing issues, and I stand by my thoughts that with this many published books there should be paid proofing/editing or good alpha or beta readers, this was definitely better than the last few releases. I'm not a good judge here on how standalone it is because I have read almost all the other books in the series. I absolutely love rejected mate books, especially when the rejected couple find their way back together, which is what you have with this one. Throw in OW drama, OM drama and you have me sold. I really did enjoy this one and can't wait now to read Velia's story(not sure if she already has it written on the other platform and I just haven't seen it yet).
If you are a rejected mate fan, then I definitely recommend this one!
DNF at 50% ...I adored Braxton...Sean made for a great villain character as well as Georgie..he slid back into her life a little too easy...the parents are completely oblivious and Sean feeling up the MC and talking vile to the dad in his house was cringe...u let this man f*** BOTH ur daughters..I would have loved for Braxton to be the hero and get her healthy and explore her strength as a Beta wolf...she started out strong but then the drama just dragged..LOVING the alpha male theme..the storyline of sharing a mate just doesnt work..Maybe if it was just the words Sean may have been redeemable but u were SMASHING his sister! I was hoping Braxton who lost his mate was the male to come aid her during her heat...book was sooooo captivating...just fell off
Leona Page has become one of my top five favorite authors, and her Not Quite An Alpha series is definitely one of my if not absolutely my favorite werewolf series . This book is a fantastic, heart ripping addition and continuation, as she fleshes out the world and the conspiracy in it. Illian, Sean, and Braxton have a tumultuous and complex relationship, but I didn't want to put the book down and it was easy to understand how they felt even when it was frustrating as a reader that they felt that way. This book has been added to my forever library to be read again and again.
I picked this up on a recommendation and did not read the other books in the series. I’m sure it would have been much more enjoyable to have know the other characters if they were in the previous books. However I don’t have any issues with understanding what was going on. The book over all was enjoyable and good. I loved the MFM aspect and why I picked it up. Iliana really went through so much to get to her ending. I loved Brax and even Sean in a way. I think they both were D’s in there own way. Lots of rejection, angst, some OW drama. You get to see that choices have a lasting consequence.
I enjoyed this book like I did with this series in general. I think with a little more polishing/world building this author could really have a strong shifter series.
For the storyline and plot I would give it 5 stars. I loved the FMC and her development.
The only reason I gave this book 3 stars is again the world building is unclear. Ive read I think 7 books total from this series and I’m always confused. There are too many packs in this series, and the timeline stretches over a 20-25 year period. However, this isn’t made clear. Characters will randomly bring up points from other books and you have to piece it together.
I know the author had shared some of this story on WattPad but I can’t remember if it was all of the story or just part of it. Either way, I felt some level of déjà vu through the entire reading.
I really enjoyed this story – really enjoy the world that has been created and built and look forward to reading more. I am holding out hope for a happy ending for Sarj and the new characters that are being revealed.
I love this series by Leona Page-Iliana’s Choice is amazing and I couldn’t put it down. The roller co Of emotions that these characters ride is crazy but the fight for their Happy Ending. The spicy is perfect the story is perfect and I’m just left with such a book hangover. I need the next story now.
I really like this author. I have read a few of her books on Wattpad and decided to support her here. I really enjoyed the book. It’s was great for a change of pace from my usual darker reads. It did have some freshness to the book , the genre can get stale sometimes but this was great.
Great backstories for the guys, who overcame so much. The h is not a favourite for me but it was good to see characters from previous books, and their influence in pack life. The Hs were both great and they had to overcome a lot to survive. But the h was too weak for too long and her part didn't work well for me. Loved seeing Teague being the amazing Alpha being kind to the h.
*This is for the series so far* It's an enjoyable, fun series. Decent character development, but the plot was a bit all over the place at times. And even now, the "rules" of mates is a bit up n down. Regardless, I've been enjoying the books and may start another series by the author soon.
Struggled with this book, mainly due to the characters. Braxton is lovely but I couldn't get behind the rest of them. Lliana confused me and Sean???? Bad boy or not? I know why all the characters behaved the way they did, the author does a great job of explaining the reasons, but I just couldn't buy any of it!
There are definitely large portions of this book where you’ll hate EVERY male and doubt that Ili will ever be able to have her HEA. It’s definitely not a book for anyone who might be triggered by abuse. Leona Page is brilliant, though, and it does work out in the end, but this one is a rough ride.
I'm really disappointed with this book. So sorry LP it just was really a mix of all the other books. I'm all for telling a story but.... I'm not sure this was very disappointing.
Loved the others, this one just didn’t do it for me. Felt the miscommunications were childish and exhausting. Something was unbalanced with the characters, and at this point I gave up
I loved the interaction between Braxton and Sean, quite a bit of laughing and in tears. I wish the hierarchy would have been better explained, now I was confused here and there but I loved this book. I love some smut, this was a good dose!
I feel like it had the bones for a great book. However, Iiliana was too weak and never self actualized or did anything other than suffer. The dialogue was so cringe "yeah?" If I see babydaisy ever again, I may have flashbacks. Overall good concept but poor execution.
