Mika Koontz is an American and Japanese dual national and professional home organizer and author. She is also a lifelong surfer and ocean lover. Her children’s book, My Friend, Water, is a magical fable and a water safety book about the importance of staying calm and not panicking in the event of a water emergency situation.

Her next book, A Portrait of You, will be released in March 2026. This book paints the intimate life stories of five real people she met in a small seaside town in Japan. She interviewed each person, and then took great care to capture their essence as she created individual written portraits that showcase their energy, voice, and story.

In the summer of 2026, she will release the first book of a seven-part guidebook series about how to optimize energy in the home. This series was inspired by her experience working as a professional home organizer for the last decade. It blends her professional experience, visiting homes in over thirty countries, energetic principles, and her cultural blend of Eastern and Western perspectives. She has found that certain elements are incredibly helpful for good energy and can apply to homes around the world. The first book is a decluttering guidebook.

A wonderful book that teaches kids about water safety without making water seem super scary. We should all be water friends!
