Marcus, son of Barsadias, of the five hundred and ninety-eighth legion of our King Zoren, will very soon be dead. As a blind man, his only use is to perish in the elven lands and advance the armies of Remisia. The magical barriers that protect the realm will tear his body to shreds, and he will scream like every other man, woman, and child who has gone before him. Chained at the ankles with a spear at his back, he lifts his hand to feel the path ahead, and when he doesn’t die, everyone, including himself, wants to know how he lived.
Tortured, starving, and barely surviving, Marcus does not understand the significance of his crossing and the part it will play in the rebellion of all.
“Elisabeth Rodgers’s incredible words paint a rich world full of beauty and horror, all woven together in the most epic of stories. You’ll never want to put it down.” —CHARIS JOY JACKSON, author of Too Bright
Elisabeth Rodgers’s love of fantasy, combined with her deep imagination, inspired her to write her debut novel Out of the Darkness. She currently lives with her family in Ontario, Canada and is working on her next book, Into the Light.
This could very well be a “right book at the right time” type of read, but I really enjoyed it and all the details that went into it. The world building and magic system isn’t overly complicated but still has enough depth to make it unique and believable. I’m looking forward to reading its sequel in the new year!
This book was a bit of a surprise to me. Although there are a few rough edges that comes from any self-published book, the story and world were very clearly well thought out and crafted. It took some getting used to as we are thrown right into the story from the get-go, but after immersing yourself in the world and getting used to its tropes, the story is very engaging and very creative in its construction. I am very much looking forward to Into the Light and curious how the story will continue after the conclusion of the first book.
I really enjoyed reading this novel. I was nervous about the length and having to learn a whole new fantasy world as I usually don't make it through many fantasy novels. BUT this book was so engaging and action packed, I kept reading it every chance I got! It ended with me excited for the next novel. I will be counting down the days till Next fall when the 2nd book "Into the Light" is published.
Ahhh!!! This book was so good. Okay a little bias since got to meet the author but still, it was a good read.
The writing was good and it was fun to see a main character who was blind. It was fun to see how that was tied into the story and how things were described. Got me sitting at the edge of my seat and excited to see how the rest of the story enfolds.
It is a phenomenal novel with great character and world building. It's truly worth a read if you love fantasy novels. The author clearly took her time to build out an imaginative world with some real-life inspirations and research. it was hard to put down, as I just wanted to know what would happen next to the characters.
I loved it! I couldn't put this book down. The continuous action and character growth kept me reading. I can't wait to read the next one in the trilogy. Definitely a book to reread and talk about.
