Tom Andrews was a police officer with Nottinghamshire Police for thirteen years, leaving in 2020. His service was all spent working on the front-line within the boundaries of the city of Nottingham, dealing with some of the worst things the city had to offer and targeting some of the nastiest people in it.
Tom’s service at first glance may seem typical of any other officer. Where his tale differs though is the sheer number and variety of incidents he became involved in – from high speed pursuits involving the police helicopter and police dogs, to saving celebrities at music festivals; from arresting some brutal murderers to rolling around with suspected drug dealers in a field of dog poo; from nationally pioneering multi-agency problem-solving operations, to pursuits of mobility scooters; Tom has done most of what front-line uniformed policing has to offer, and then some.
Spending time as a 24/7 emergency response officer, neighbourhood beat manager and then working on Nottinghamshire Police’s Knife Crime Team – the only such team outside of London — Tom lifts the lid on some of the darker, more interesting and more humorous sides of policing a provincial British city in the twenty-first century. This book offers a unique insight into a side of the city that not many get to experience.
This book offers a collection of anecdotes and commentary on policing a British core city in the early 21st century
