A Clinician’s Guide to Understanding and Managing Misophonia from a Self-Regulation Perspective: Regulate, Reason, Reassure

Rate this book
Regulate, Reason, A Clinician’s Guide to Understanding and Managing Misophonia, is a coping skills manual for clinicians to help their patients manage misophonia. RRR was developed by Dr. Jennifer Brout through her own experiences as a clinician, a sufferer of misophonia, and the mother of an adult child who showed signs of misophonia at a young age. RRR gives clinicians the tools to help mediate misophonia and provides easy to follow guidelines and work sheets to ensure their clients have the skills to continue practicing RRR.

This book is a guide for interdisciplinary-oriented clinicians working with children, adolescents, and adults with misophonia. This guide was originally written for parents to assist their children to cope with misophonia. However, I have had many requests to translate this work for clinicians interested in a coping skills approach. The concepts are very much the same for individuals of all ages. However, developmental and contextual differences are important to be aware of and are therefore included throughout. The clinicians who are called upon to assess and help individuals with misophonia are vast, as we are only beginning to learn what misophonia is. Without understanding the disorder, we certainly don’t know how to treat it. While research is underway, we are still without a validated treatment. Given this, I have developed an approach to help those with misophonia cope with the disorder based on the integration of both physiologically based and cognitively based interventions, as well as psychoeducation and interdisciplinary consultation. This guide covers material that some clinicians may be more familiar with than others.
