Moving to a new home as a youngster can be an extremely difficult thing to do. Having to make new friends and build fresh relationships can be challenging at the best of times. However, when you add in the natural fragility and uncertainty of youth, the difficulty meter is increased ten-fold.
Considering this, one can only hope that the new home will be friendly and welcoming. However, what if it’s not? Worse yet, what could possibly happen if this new abode is not just “unfriendly”, but is actually haunted by a malicious entity with pure evil in its plans?
In Martin J. Best’s novel, The Baby Farmer’s Ghost, we are able to see just such a scenario in action.
Hang on tight as this promises to be a very creepy ride!
The novel is part of Martin Best’s Ghost Hunter series… but with a twist! In Baby Farmer’s Ghost, we get to see young Carolyn Hunter take the lead. A key part of the other tales in this series, Carolyn has been promoted to a leading role in this work.
Essentially, the story focuses on the Allen family who have just moved into a new home in the area. The eldest daughter, Frankie, is a nervous and vulnerable teenager who had been relentlessly bullied in her previous school. Naturally, she is fearful about what awaits her at this new location. That is until she meets Carolyn Hunter!
The pair quickly form a bond and become inseparable friends. Just what Frankie needed to overcome the past.
Be that as it may, just when everything seems to be changing for the better, Frankie is faced with a new challenge. This time it is in the form of an evil entity that seems bound and determined to create terror and chaos.
Turning to Carolyn Hunter for help, the pair prepare to battle the creature head-on.
Will the young duo be victorious in their quest to drive the unwelcome inhabitant out of Frankie’s life forever? Or have they bitten off much more than they can chew?
Having read all of the previous titles in the Ghost Hunter series, I was unsure and a bit uneasy about what to expect with this one. While I have always enjoyed Carolyn’s character, Mal has stood out as my favorite character. I had potential difficulty seeing him relegated to a secondary role.
I did not need to worry! Carolyn was simply perfect in her new role. She took all of her previous ghost-hunting experience and handled the terror in the house like a pro. I love how the author put her in the role of a strong and realistic female protagonist. Something that is needed in many more books out there. I foresee big things for Carolyn in the future.
The novel is filled with its fair share of terrifying paranormal activity that can make the skin crawl. However, like the other titles in this series, the theme of family, love, and friendship remains the anchor. Everything is connected with seamless and flowing writing that makes for a very believable and engaging story.
A perfect blend that has drawn me to the series like the proverbial moth to the flame.
The Baby Farmer’s Ghost is highly recommended to all readers. The unique blend of paranormal activities with the love and friendship displayed by the characters makes it the perfect reading selection.
5 out of 5 Enchanting Stars for this one!
