When James Ford, a philandering Secret Service agent suspended for his involvement in an international sex scandal, stumbles upon the purportedly kidnapped wife of a senator running for the presidential nomination, the Washington socialite reveals her husband's plan to have her killed. The unlikely duo soon uncover a web of insider intrigue involving conniving senators, murderous Russian agents, and the subversive machination of the Washington elite far deeper and more sinister than they had imagined. Laced with satire and humor, Fence Jumper turns the political thriller on its head and will appeal to anyone wanting a fun, unpredictable bit of escapism.
If you love politics you will absolute ly devour this book. Brandenburg writes a great story that pokes fun at every part of Washington DC. You will recognize the characters (caricatures), the places and themes. It deserves 6 stars!
This book had a slow start for me, but wow—once it picked up, the ending was absolutely energy-packed. The tension builds in a way that makes you reflect on the real-life weight carried by those in high-stakes service.
I can’t imagine the toll it takes to be a Secret Service agent. Reading this gave me a deeper appreciation for the men and women who protect our leaders while operating under intense pressure and constant danger. It’s a reminder to thank our Secret Service agents, military, and all who serve honorably to keep us safe.
Politics can be gruesome, and this story hints at the shady, behind-the-scenes realities most of us never see. While uncomfortable at times, that realism made the book even more impactful.
Final thoughts: A slower beginning, but a gripping and powerful finish that left me thinking long after the last page.
