Crawl, Walk, Run is a book about you. It is about following your dream of owning a business. It is a book about business, but it is not a business book. You are not going to encounter a bunch of jargon or complicated math. You're also not going to find a blueprint for becoming the next Elon Musk! Crawl, Walk, Run is for regular people who simply want to start a business in order to fulfill a dream, have a little side income, or escape today's crazy job market.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people start new businesses in the United States. However, half of those businesses fail in the first five years. Some of them were just bad ideas. Most of them, though, could have made it with just a bit more planning, and more importantly, a carefully managed rollout. That is what this book is about. It is a strategy that removes much of the risk of starting a business by testing your ideas over and over again until you KNOW you have a business that will work!
First, we are going to CRAWL. We are going to find the perfect business idea for who you are and what you want from your business. Then, we are going to identify a group of people who will do more than like your business, they are going to LOVE it. Why? Because we are going to microtarget our business for that group of people and become the PERFECT solution to what they are looking for. Finally, we are going to test our idea with a small group of friends and connections and make sure our idea connects.
Then, we are going to WALK. Walking involves taking what you've learned during the crawl phase and fleshing out a fully developed strategy for your business. We will choose a business structure, work out how we will create and deliver our product or service to scale, develop a marketing strategy, and come up with a finance plan. Once we have all of that in place, we will roll out the smallest possible version of our business we can come up with so we can test, learn, change, shift, adapt, or even go back to the drawing board until we KNOW we have a business idea that works.
Then, we RUN. We launch our business using everything we learned through the crawl and walk process.
While following the Crawl, Walk, Run plan will not guarantee success, you will have a much greater chance because you have tested and tried every aspect of your business strategy. You won't be blindly jumping in with an untested idea simply hoping it will work.
