"Legends of secret tunnels and disappearing men... All over mysterious South America, from the still unknown central plateau to the Brazilian Highlands, to the cordilleras of southern Argentina, there are traditions bathed in the "light that never was on sea or land," of what the roaming gauchos of the pampas call 'las cidades encantadas' (the enchanted cities).
"In some cases, such as in Santiago de Chile and along the mysterious Rio Baker, the Chilotes believe that, in a certain inaccessible region of the high cordilleras, there today exists a walled city of great antiquity, which is still inhabited, but protected by an insurmountable barrier of rocks.
"Access is by a secret tunnel, legend says, and those who have be chance seen this enchanted city have done so from a distant mountaintop. It is also said that those who have managed to enter this strange place have never returned to the world of living men."
