El propósito es el de la fábula señalar conductas humanas inapropiadas con el propósito de dar paso a la moraleja. En estos cuentos desfilan graciosos integrantes de la la luciérnaga, el cerdo, el tlacuache, el lagartijo, la araña, el guajolote, el cuervo, el centzontle, entre otros. Todos tienen personalidad, es decir, a todos se les atribuyen características humanas que los definen como héroes o villanos.
