Once again Alexandra has given us an unexpected pleasure! She has taken the stories and superstitions from the beginning of the Salem Witch Hunts and then incorporated it with desire and BDSM scenes. I am excited to have read this and truly can't wait for the next book in this series.

Freedom in Submission takes place in seventeenth century Massachusetts during the time of the Salem Witch Trials. Before things take a bit of turn towards the kinky, the story paints an absorbing and accurate picture of Puritan family life at the time.
Nice respectable married couple, Ezekiel and Martha, have some secret hidden kinky BDSM desires burning away under their modest puritan garb. In Ezekiel’s case these desires are so hidden that he didn’t even know he had them.
Martha is a bit more experienced in the whole BDSM business having got up to all sorts in her previous marriage and with a clandestine kinkster society in the village. She’d shelved all thoughts of such naughtiness during her seven year marriage but when events bring it all back into focus, she has to admit to herself that her masochistic submissive self is who she is.
And, happily, after a bit of understandable reticence, Ezekiel realises he is totally on board with the whole Driven-by-one-lusts Dom business. The sex and BDSM scenes are pretty hot and it’s great to read a book where it’s the Dom who’s the newbie rather than the other way round.
Frustratingly, this is only the first part of the ‘BDSM and Magic in the Colonies’ set so the story doesn’t really get a chance to develop. The ongoing witchcraft trials are mentioned but are not really part of the story. A slightly sinister turn towards the end of the book suggests that Ezekiel and Martha are going to be drawn further into this world of devilment and hysteria.
It’s a bit unfair of me to complain about this just being the first part of a larger story as I appreciate that this is the way the author chooses to publish. It’s probably quite a good business model – get readers hooked and ensure sales for the next instalment. Most of the books I read don’t follow this format though and come with a beginning, middle and end. Stuff happens, stuff gets resolved, sex ‘n’ spanks happen and then our hero and heroine live happily ever after. I felt a bit short-changed when I reached the end and found myself with more questions than answers.
Why did you spend so long talking about Goody Nurse at the beginning only for her never to be mentioned again? What's the deal with the witchcraft trials? Is it all just distortion and disinformation? Or is everyone actually worshipping Satan in their spare time? Is the Minister a Good Pervert or a Bad Pervert?
Well, there you go. Clearly Alexandra Noir knows what she’s doing. I’ll be buying the next instalment as soon as it comes out. I’m hooked.

This was a unique combination of History and BDSM. The setting for the story is in Massachussetts during the time of the Salem Witch Trials. The main character, Martha, is married and has two boys. Her husband is very religious and requires them to go to Church all the time. Martha though has a hard time holding her tongue about things she thinks are not as they should be and it gets her in trouble with her husband. He tries to get her to be quiet, especially when they are out in public. She just can't help her self at times and this causes a big problem, more than she expected. Martha has a past that her husband doesn't know about. When he does something out of character for him, she finds herself drawn back into a past she gave up when they met. Her desires for that past could get her killed. It also causes her inner turmoil because she truly loves her husband but wants more than what they have in their marriage. When they finally get a chance to talk and she spills everything about her past, her husband is in shock. Will his decision be one that separates them or bring them closer, is all Martha can think about. Her husband has some soul searching to do and when he does, Martha is quite surprised.

This is a fascinating combination of history and BDSM that I did not foresee, but I am glad to have encountered. The story skillfully blends that two into a fascinating, and very steamy, story which really caught my attention and kept me reading right up to the end. The characters are well developed and fit well into the historical context, with all the prejudices of the era. I found the story to be highly entertaining and look forward to the next book.

What an unexpected pleasure! Alexandra Noir has taken the stories and superstitions from the beginning of the Salem Witch Hunts and incorporated desire and BDSM scenes in order to mesh them into an intriguing storyline that includes not only the main couple, Martha and Ezekiel, but the new preacher and respected elders of the church. I am so excited to have read this and truly can't wait for the next book in this series. I was given a copy of this ARC and then got my own copy to give my voluntary and honest review.

Fast-paced fun and steamy read. Notley Village is peaceful and quiet not far from the notorious Salem. There are secrets in the Village just as wicked. Will Martha’s deepest desires and wickedness be revealed? Looking forward to reading more. Great characters and a steamy and entertaining read.

Wow, who would have thought that this culture would be into such hard core stuff? What goes on behind closed doors no one knows. She is really into it (BDSM) and gets her husband to open up about it. It seems he likes the hard core naughty stuff.

That was a deliciously dirty beginning to this series. Martha's true nature wants to shine but Ezekiel is leary. I was a little hesitant at first with much talk of witchcraft (it's not a preference if mine but I tried it because I usually enjoy this author) but the way this short story is spun was much better than anticipated.

This book is hot and steamy, I loved it. This author has become one of my go to authors for sure. She writes with feeling and steam. Her characters are sexy and hot. They are strong and make the story feel real. I was pulled into this book from the beginning. This is a great book to warm up your night. I highly recommend this book.

"BDSM and Magic in the Colonies" Book 1: Freedom in Submission by Alexandra Noir is a great story to read.This is book number one in this great series that I enjoyed reading it and can not wait to read book number two. I recommend this story to all that are 18+, dark erotica,erotic and paranormal romances.

Living in Massachusetts made this book interesting to read about Salem. You just never know what goes on behind closed doors!! Being a witch with a hankering of submitting to someone else is truly appealing!

In this story the author meshes history and BDSM flawlessly together. It’s a well written, easy to follow story with nice character depth. A great read.

This was a bit different as it has a historical storyline that goes against what was considered right at the time. It’s refreshing to the usual historical reads I’ve listened to before. Excellent narration.

Very far-fetched even for a coven of witches in Colonial Salem
Of course, there were no witches in Salem, only innocent women and one man who were the cruel playthings of bored teenaged girls who had listened to a Voodoo priestess tell tales of her native Africa. The girls threw themselves with gusto into fits and marked their bodies, declaring it was the work of witches in the Puritan Community. And the purist church listened and believed... But BDSM in the devout Puritan society? A interesting premise, but a little far-fetched to be believable. Ms. Noir is a gifted writer, but this fictional premise is too ludicrous to consider feasible. Even fiction needs to be possible.
