Poor Season. She was a fool blinded by love. Instead of listening to her mama, she listened to her heart and was unable to see Coleman for the wolf in sheep’s clothing he really was. Her gullibility allowed Coleman to persuade Season to move to LA so, he could follow his dream of becoming an actor. When the one show he lands is cancelled after one season and he’s unable to book any other TV shows, the fairytale is over, and the nightmare begins. Two years of being Coleman’s personal punching bag has finally become enough for Season and she devises a plan to escape the trenches of LA and head back home. Ezra is back in Cherry Oak Bay to attend his dad’s funeral and tie up some lose ends. Small town life is no longer his jam and the quicker he can vacate the premises the better. However, fate has other plans. A snowstorm has grounded all flights and Ezra’s Cancun vacation has been cancelled. Season graciously offers him a room at her family’s lodge and, just like that, a hood holiday romance is born. These two were definitely what the other needed. Season managed to get Ezra to find his love for the holidays again. Ezra helped Season find her confidence, self-worth, and showed her, in spite of the abuse she endured, she is still a beautiful black queen who deserves love. I absolutely loved me some Ezra Black. He was hood, rude, and brutally honest. Emphasis on brutally. Ezra had no filter whatsoever and anybody could get it. Despite the title, Saved by a Thug on Christmas was giving Hallmark holiday movie vibes with some TVOne sprinkled in for a lil razzle dazzle. This was my first read by Shavonne Latrice but, it will definitely not be my last.
