I'm biased as I have a personal connection to this book (the author was my great-grandfather, who I knew as a child). It is an easy to read, short historical overview of a very specific area in Eastern Wyoming starting with its settlement by whites in the late 1800s and going through the Great Depression, with mentions of things before and since. It is also part memoir, including several anecdotes and humorous stories. If you are interested in what life was like as a homesteader in the early 1900's, this is an excellent first hand account. It is not the most scholarly book, and is (sometimes frustratingly) brief, but it is interesting, entertaining, and insightful and does a great job of putting you in the shoes of a homesteader in a dry, beautiful land. Even if you only have a passing interest in the subject, it is easy to recommend to anyone due to its length and accessible writing.
