Lua: Art of the Hawaiian Warrior

Rate this book
This book was passed on by a teacher of the art of Lua. Personal inscriptions are inside cover, and a newspaper clipping of this book and a description of what the art of Lua is all about. I hope you enjoy this sentimental treasure!

Why did I pick this up? I have kept a social second home on Hawaii for years and my father spent several years there. I've long had deep respect for and interest in Hawaiian culture and history. Simultaneously I have studied Filipino and Indonesian martial arts. I've long since heard of lua and been intrigued by it but couldn't find a reference. Having studied one of the few remaining true martial or "war" arts that is weapons based, lua was an immediate attraction. This book does well to describe its history, it's place in society both ancient and modern, & give a glimpse to those more accustomed to modern "sport" martial arts into the world of war arts designed for killing or incapacitating vs point fighting. Great book and well done.
