Closer to a 3.5 for me. I enjoyed it, but for a men's adventure book, not a lot happens til the last 30 pages, and it was anticlimactic. The writing is actually good, and I do like Dane, the main character. This is a weaker book than the first one, I believe. Basically, Dane is asked to kill the leadership of an Aryan racist group that headquarters in a compound in the deep woods of North Carolina. At first, he agreed to just check it out, but then he was given a reason to want to complete the job.

Can't really recommend it. The first book is better, and from everything I read, including from the author's own website, the third is the best. I will get around to that sometime.

I loved the first "Hardball" book when I read it in the early 1990s, and I grabbed this, the second book, as soon as it arrived at my local bookstore. Unfortunately, this proved the old adage, "sequels ain't equal." This was supposed to be a series about CIA Operative Randall Dane, and the first book read like an action movie from the late 80s or early 90s. However, this second installment just wasn't up to par. In particular, it didn't have the same fast pace that made the first book so hard to put down. As a result, the series fizzled after only one more book. To be fair, however, the first book did set the bar really high, and I can definitely see how the question of "Where do we go from here?" might have been a very difficult one for the author to address.

A lone commando goes up against a white supremacist enclave as a favor to a dying man. Better than the first book in the series.
