A simple girl that now has the strong powerful spirit of Gemma Mackenzie! You could have the strong spirits of any of my characters I would love to hear what one! I have made a blog about it on my website www.margaetadyer.co.uk called The Rocky Road of 2023 and on GoodReads called A Year of The Power of A Dragon!

"My first day as the water nation general has officially started and I am dreading it. My mind is still all over the place and I am still thinking about my dance with Daniel; I shouldn’t be but it seems to be the only thing keeping me going. I lie in my bed thinking about what it would feel like being in his arms again, to feel his warm body up against mine."

I first heard about this book when I came across the author’s profile on TikTok about a week ago, and I instantly knew I wanted to read it.

This book focuses on first-person narratives and mainly follows Gemma and Daniel (plus some more characters, but those two are the main ones; personally, I’m rather fond of Jay). The premise of this story is intriguing: there are four nations that have lived together in harmony: air, earth, fire and water. Great Britain has appointed a new water nation general, which is Gemma, the first woman to be in this position, and many people don’t look kindly this upon. Gemma’s incredibly powerful and her rising to this position causes a rift in the peacefulness between the nations.

Daniel is the Great British fire nation general; he’s still new to the job and feeling the stress and the burden from it. When he sees Gemma for the first time, he experiences this strong, almost indescribable attraction to her. When they meet later on, a spark ignites between them and they both give in to it: water and fire in a passionate love constellation, one that is forbidden.

Another thing about this book… it has dragons in it. I absolutely love dragons, so of course I had to read it!

I don’t want to give any spoilers, but this book touches on some dark subjects, so please be aware of it if you’re planning on reading it.

There’s a distinct plot thread going through the entire book, and I love the fact that it’s written from different POVs. The attraction between the characters I found interesting to follow. Sometimes I was smiling whilst reading; Jay has this sense of humour, which made me chuckle.

The battle scenes and how the power of water and fire are being used by the characters are written in a way which kept me interested. It was just the right amount of details for me; not too little and not too much so that it takes up entire pages of just fight scenes.

I enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading the future novels written by this author.

Firstly - fantasy fiction isn’t my normal type of book so it was a first for me. Gemma and Daniel meet at a dance and from then there is some kind of connection between them…. I’m still unsure of what that connection is but I am intrigued to find out more.
Lots of unexpected twists and turns as more is revealed about Daniels past, but I do want to know more about Gemma - who are her parents? Why is she so powerful?
Loved Jays character - very funny, laddish type character!
If you take the spicy scenes out I do feel this book is very YA vibes! Also I found it difficult to work out what time period this book is set in, sometimes it seems modern, other times it seems old fashioned.

Anyways as I said not my usual genre but it’s a good short story, quite easy to read - abit of spice, lots of fighting and I want to know more about the characters! 4 stars from me!

Air, Earth, Fire, and Water, combined, have coexisted for a long time in precarious harmony. Great Britain has now upset the equilibrium and jeopardized the four countries' very stability. The issue is Gemma. Gemma becomes the first woman to hold the position of Great British water country general, and in doing so, she unleashes a chain of events that might endanger her people. And dance is where it all starts. Daniel, the Great British fire country general, is eager to get to know his new coworker. He is still learning his job and attempting to establish himself. Nevertheless, when he does, a spark is set off. Their prohibited fire-and-water union will force them to reevaluate all they believe to be true about themselves, their world, and their pasts. They'll rapidly discover that revealing your past secrets might have far-reaching repercussions.

The characters were flawless in every aspect; even if they had flaws, the author described them in a way that made you fall in love with them. Each well-developed supporting character has a unique personality. Although this book does not put a lot of focus on the steaminess that we all love so much, there is a big gradual burn that makes the relationship so valuable. The story is incredibly captivating. Long, but worth the read. Although the narrative periodically surrounds us with a setting that implies how certain events may have transpired, everything is vivid enough to give us the impression that we are actually in the magical realm. The novel's many twists and turns sparked readers' attention even more.

The writing is superb, captivating, and engaging. From the first page, the descriptions are warm and rich and the prose is exquisite. In addition to creating such a massive magical universe, the author also succinctly and plainly describes all the locations, their inhabitants, and their powers. Unfortunately, the book's fanciful beginning soon gives way to a more realistic tone, which may grow boring at times. Despite this, the author continually produces high-caliber writing.

Truly Amazing!

It weaves a captivating tale of magic, romance, and the struggle for balance in a world where the harmony of the four elemental nations is under threat.
The story revolves around Gemma, the first woman to be appointed as the Great British water nation general, and Daniel, the fiery and determined fire nation general.
The characters are well-developed, and their evolving relationship is at the heart of the story. Gemma and Daniel's connection, despite being against societal norms, is a compelling exploration of love's ability to transcend boundaries.
The author's descriptions of each nation and their unique characteristics are vivid, allowing readers to immerse themselves in this fantastical realm.
What truly shines is the theme of self-discovery and the pursuit of truth. It is a mesmerising and thought-provoking read, offering a blend of fantasy, romance, and self-discovery. It's a recommended choice for those who appreciate unique world-building and character-driven narratives.
