The brilliantly and exquisitely designed picture book, A Helping Hand, is the sixth installment in the Honeycake series and focuses on diversity and inclusion for young readers. Nala, the main character, and her two uncles attend a fundraising activity for children with disabilities. She meets kids who have challenges at the event and learns about the difficulties that people with disabilities endure.

This book is a terrific opportunity to improve children's comprehension and foster compassion. A perfect gift for any occasion!

This book is possibly one of the sweetest children's book I have read, it is a great way to get young readers to learn all about the different wonderful people there is in the world.

This book might also help answer any questions young child have , or create many more! Nala is such a sweet character and is very believable, the author hasn't done this book in a way that a child wouldn't speak which makes it easy for other children to relate too it. A truly great and inspirational read!

This is an amazing book aimed at ages 3-6 - but I definitely think that it could be read and used as an educational tool at a much older age group too.

Nala attends a charity gala which is raising funds for children who are amputees.
There she meets some amazing and inspirational children who, although they have differences, are still able to function and exceed what other children can achieve.

Some great lessons here to help younger children to understand and accept people who are different. Promoting inclusivity and acceptance along with kindness and humanity.

There's a great section at the start of the book that explains to the reader what it's goals are - which would make a great reading circle discussion point.
And a glossary at the end to help properly explain some of the technical terms.

All proceeds from each book sale will be going to The War Amps CHAMP Program which I think is amazing.

Nala is excited to go out to a fancy fundraising party with her two uncles. She does not realize until she is there that it is a fundraiser for amputee children. Nala learns all about the things that those with an amputee can do. After meeting so many children and seeing her new friends’ incredible work, she is inspired to go home and make a difference of her own.

Honeycake A Helping Hand is an inspiring picture book about the incredible good that children are capable of. This fantastic children’s book shows kids as leaders, motivators, helpers, and genuinely caring individuals. Author Medea Kalantar teaches children about amputees in a compassionate and age-appropriate manner. Kalantar does not oversimplify the facts but presents them in a conversational tone that sounds like two preteen children talking. If readers have additional questions, there is a glossary at the end to help them understand further.

Aside from the topic of amputees in this unique book, Kalantar introduces the concept of blended families and same-sex relationships, normalizing these dynamics. This book has so many examples of inclusion and compassion that it takes a lot. I love that there is so much representation in this short children’s book. Illustrator i Cenizal brings all the different elements to life, adding to the experience.

Honeycake A Helping Hand showcases the value of helping others, giving back to the community, and doing your best to be a good person through your actions and words. This well-written children’s book is perfect for classrooms and libraries.

Honeycake is the nickname for a sweet little girl named Nala who lives with her loving family. Her two uncles came to take her to a very special day where she would meet some heroic children who were making a great difference in the lives of others with disabilities.

Her uncles came to get her and bragged on their sweet niece. They asked her if she would like to visit the event hall where the program would soon start. She was anxious to meet the other children and quickly said, “yes”! Honeycake didn’t live with a disability but was always friendly and welcoming to those who had a disability in their life.

She was introduced to bright red hair and freckles. This girl had a congenital disability in which part of her arm didn’t finish developing. She and Alexis talked about her arm and they were very open and transparent. Of course, Nala was accepting of her. Next they met Jake and Traci who both led an exciting and fulfilling life even though they had a phyiscal disability. It didn’t stop them from having fun and being successful.

Alexi won an award for being such an inspiring fundraiser to help other kids. After a day like this Honeycake was impressed to start her own club to do great things for others. What a great book that will make us all think about where we fit in on our life’s journey to help those around us.

This is the 6th book in the series and it is most definitely an educational and entertaining children's book. Aimed at 3 to 6 year olds it's a story of inclusively and acceptance. It shows young children that, just because some is different in some way, it doesn't mean they can't succeed in anything they want to do. It's such a lovely and amazing book.
The beginning of the book explains there is a glossary at the back of the book to explain any technical terms used throughout the story. The author has also included a parents section. This tells the adult reader what the aims for the book are. I think this is a great idea.
I love that it shows children just being accepting and kind is all they need to be. There is not enough of that these days. I think older children could read this too myself. It may give them an important lesson also.
Thanks to Love Books Tours and the author for my place on the tour along with the ebook.

Honeycake Helping Hand is a wonderful story to help children understand disabilities, especially amputees or people born without all their limbs. Nala is invited to a party where she meets kids with disabilities and finds out they are just like her. Just because someone has a disability does not mean they can’t play basketball for example.

I had someone close to me lose his leg and now has a prosthetic leg. I struggled with this as an adult but this book would have helped me understand that my person can continue to do everything. It is the perfect book for children as well to help them understand someone who is different than they are.

I loved this book for its story and the illustrations. They are bright and colorful and will capture any child’s attention!

What a lovely story for slightly older young children. I think this would be perfect for aged 5-8.
Nala is a wonderfully, curious young girl who asks the questions that many of us are thinking! She meets some extraordinary young people who show her that bodies come in many different shapes and we can be as successful as we set our minds to be.
The illustrations are bright and engaging and not too young for the more advanced reader.
There are some pretty big words which young readers will struggle with but the author included a handy glossary at the end to explain some of these which even I found helpful!
A really important read to teach children about disability.

Wow! What a heartwarming read! Me and my little girl sat and read this together and I’m so happy that a book like this allows children to understand more about certain disabilities and helps to make the topic more accessible for adults who may not know how to approach the subject with their children!

A lovely written story with such a pure and meaningful message! It’s ok to be different and being different doesn’t mean that you can donor achieve anything that anyone else can do.

Thanks to the publisher and the author and also @lovebookstours for gifting us the ebook to enjoy together! A definite important read for all kids.

This is a lovely children's book focusing on disabilities. The main character goes to a fundraiser with her uncles and meets children with various disabilities. She learns that even with a disability we are all the have the same dreams and are capable of helping each other.

I think it's great children are being taught about disabilities and diversity and this is such a lovely book to read with them.

There are some words in the book that young children will struggle with and not understand but the author has supplied a helpful glossary.

The author is donating all proceeds from each book sale to The War Amps CHAMP Program as their charity of choice.

We loved reading this book together as a family, the illustrations really stood out and really drew my kids in. It is a lovely book and also helps explain to children that no matter how you look, who you love everyone is the same and should be treated that way. Such a great lesson for them to learn during story time

Love, love, love this book so much 🥰 and I cannot wait to read this to my neice and nephews. Such an educational read for the kiddies and good for the kids who have disabilities to see that they aren't alone.
.
My 8 year old nephew has problems with his legs, his feet actually go in the way and he falls ALOT and has to wear splints on both legs so I'm really looking forward to reading this with him.

Honeycake is a series of diverse children's picture books that each focus on a different aspect for children to learn. In A Helping Hand, the main character goes to a fundraiser for children with disabilities with her two uncles. At the fundraiser, she meets many kids with physical disabilities and learns about wheelchairs, prosthetics, etc! These are super great for kids to be exposed to different types of disabilities. The main character also has a multicultural family and two uncles.

The only way to begin this review is by saying how sweet, wholesome and inspiring A Helping Hand is.

It’s a fabulous teaching tool for kids to learn about disabilities/amputees and the wonders of prosthetics. There is even a glossary at the back that explains big, new words.
And then you have the beautiful message that shines throughout. It’s okay to be different! What a simple yet powerful message, and perfect for kids to read.
Nala is adorable. She has a curious mind and a heart of gold and is always happy to lend a helping hand.
A Helping Hand is a beautiful story that celebrates diversity.

Oh, and how could I forget the gorgeous illustrations? They are as sweet and as adorable as the story.

Thank you, Love Books Tours, for the gift of the ebook in return for an honest review.

I’m so sorry for posting so late in the day.

This was a wonderful story that has such an important message for both children and adults alike.
The book follows Nala who is an incredibly curious child and upon meeting children of all different shapes. sizes and differences she feels able to ask questions to be able to understand the people she has met and what makes them different.
The book is wonderfully colourful and vibrant and I really loved it.
