The Domestic Revolution Explained: From Brainwave to Microwave
Today we take so much for granted, but it wasn't always so! Just a hundred years ago barely half the country had gas and very few had electricity, another hundred years before that and there were no utility supplies at all. Domestic life has changed so dramatically during this period that it can be fascinating to see just how we progressed. This easy to follow book is illustrated by over 160 photographs and drawings and is divided into three time zones.

I guess I was just hoping for a bit more of a cause and effect rather than just a timeline

Another enjoyable book from the Explained series.
It wasn't quite what I'd expected as I'd got in my head that the focus would be on the development of appliances etc, whereas although these were included to some extent, a lot was to do with the development of Sewage, Water, Gas and Electricity in Britain - not subjects I am quite so keen on reading about, but nevertheless interesting all the same. It is in some ways probably a good idea that it came from a slightly different angle as I might have found myself knowing even more than I did already which would have made for a boring read.
In conclusion, my main grievances were my own prior knowledge and not having paid attention to the content - neither issues reflecting on the quality of the book so others will not be disappointed with this purchase.
A good size and written in simple terms for someone who doesn't want to get too heavy with the subject.
