First published in 1972, 'One Man's Wars' is a biography of Charles Sweeny, a US national who, after failing to graduate at West Point early in the 20th century went on to have several military careers with various countries including a stint with the French Foreign Legion during WW1. Inevitably, there are many anecdotes which sound like they are seriously exaggerated in order to build up a larger than life character and yet, even allowing for this, the bio is impressive and makes great reading.
