Picture-packed introduction to the human body. This book is a bundle of colorful pages, large photographs and easy-to-read type that add up to fun learning. It addresses many of the questions a child will ask about his or her Where is my heart? How do I remember things? What are bones made of? Close-up color photographs, cutaway diagrams and clear text make complex ideas easy to understand. Each spread also features an activity that reinforces a concept and encourages further learning. The author efficiently covers a wide variety of topics. The chapter on the brain, for example, is divided into such sections as Senses, Quick as a Flash! and Feelings. The chapter on the digestive system explains why we burp and features an activity that uses string to show how long the digestive system is. Designed to be read alone or shared with friends or parents, My Body is a fun way to engage children's curiosity about the human body, particularly their own.
I’m interested in science because it helps us to understand the world. I enjoy finding out about new things and then working out how to write about them in a way that is both clear (and accurate) but which also conveys my own excitement and interest. I particularly like writing books that are fun, and I have been lucky to have had so many chances to do so.
I was born in Yorkshire in England, but grew up in Stranraer, a small town in south-west Scotland. I graduated from Edinburgh University and then came down to London, where I have lived ever since. I enjoy reading novels, watching films, and walking in the countryside.
this book was a nonfiction book that I absolutely loved. I gave it 5 stars but if I could I would give it more than that. This book is intended for children rang in ages 5-10. The book allows the reader to learn the ins and out about their body. How it works why it does what it does exc. This book even gives the reader helpful hints on how to stay healthy which I love. This is why I rated this book so highly. The younger the reader the earlier they learn to take better care of themselves the healthier they will be down the road. This book teaches the reader very easily the things they should do everyday in order to stay healthy. I believe that is why this book is so appealing. Not only that but it also gives the reader little activities that they can do that will give them a hands on approach on how a certain body part functions or works. When using this book to work with children I would use one of the notes for parents and teacher in the section after each chapter to use as a classroom activity to give them a more hands on approach.
I checked out this book from the library when I was teaching him about healthy habits, and I loved the bright pictures and easy-to-understand text. But my favorite parts in the book were the hands-on-extension activities on nearly every page. For example, we put an egg in vinegar overnight to see how acid can break down calcium. It was quite a good object lesson for the importance of teeth-brushing! I highly recommend this book for fun teaching ideas.
