One Thousand Dollars and Other Play

Money or love? Which is more important in life? Can money buy anything? Can it help a young man top marry the girl he loves? Does money really make people happy, or does it just cause problems?
We all know how difficult love can be. When you meet someone you like, there are so many things that can go wrong, sometimes because you are trying too hard, sometimes because of a misunderstanding.
These four plays about money, love and life are adapted from short stories written a hundred years ago by the great American storyteller O. Henry. Henry had his own difficulties with money and loneliness, and wrote from personal experience.

1. If you were asked someone want you to sale your life, can you sale your life for money?

A. If my family was pinched for money, I maybe be able to sale my life. Because I'm non-person if my parents made me. I should have a lot of to be thankful for them. So I can sale my life for my parents.

2. What are things that cannot be bought for money?!

A. I guess time, love and feeling.
In the story, the main character's father want to buy time. But he cannot buy. If I had a lot of money, I cannot manège time. Because all of people was given equal times. I cannot change equal things. Love and feeling is so difficult. If I can change other people's attitude about me to give many money, I cannot change stand basic of people's feeling. It is difficult.

Not sure why all the bad reviews... I only read One thousand Dollars; sounds like there may be more stories in this book.

One Thousand Dollar is a short story about a spoiled Young Gillian is upset his wealthy uncle left him with $1000 with strings attached. His hope was that his nephew would change his shallow ways. He must spend the $1000 and prove to the lawyers he didn’t spend it on something frivolous. He spends the whole day trying to figure out how to do that & when he does… the lawyer accidentally confesses something about the remaining money and who it may go to if not him and he must decide if he really needs the money or does the other person… proving how shallow he really is.

4.What do you want to do if you have a thousand dollars?
- I want to travel all over the world, especially Europe.
5.Money or Love? Which is more important in life? Of course, both of them are important. I think money is more important than love because you cannot live without money. But even if you do not have any money, you might live happily if there is love. It is very difficult question for me!

Money, love, time, ring, painting, traffic, bread

[Money is nothing when you have true love.]

Everyone has most important things in their lives. Many people say " Love is all, money is not important." as same as in this story. However, I don't think so. I think we don't have to decide one important thing for own life, and we shoudn' t persist in one sense of values.

I never read O. Henry before I discovered this book. I must say I enjoy the wit and the many twisted endings of his stories. The version I'm reading are written for secondary school students. Initially reading it for work purpose, the surprise of its simplicity and clever humour has got me hooked. Work has never been enjoyable when you are required to read a good book like this! I'm looking forward to read more stories from O.Henry.
