Rate this book

Using dozens of full-color photographs, it depicts the life and struggles of these majestic beasts--from their significance in Roman, Greek and Victorian society to Africa's current fight to save its elephants. Examines all facets of the African elephant's life and provides in-depth coverage of one of the most widely covered conservation issues of the poaching and slaughtering of African elephants for their ivory.

The book is more than 30 years old, so some of the information is out of date, but still a good read, with great pictures of elephants in the wild.
