Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist who is best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit.

Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.

In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.

Potter eventually published 24 children's books, the most recent being The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots (2016), and having become financially independent of her parents, was able to buy a farm in the Lake District, which she extended with other purchases over time.

In her forties, she married a local solicitor, William Heelis. She became a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and illustrate children's books. Potter died in 1943 and left almost all of her property to The National Trust in order to preserve the beauty of the Lake District as she had known it, protecting it from developers.

Potter's books continue to sell well throughout the world, in multiple languages. Her stories have been retold in various formats, including a ballet, films, and in animation.

I have read all of Beatrix Potter's wonderful little tales, and this was a great compilation of some of the most famous ones, as well as tales that are not as commonly known.
Great little treasury for children who love Peter Rabbit and Friends, as well as great choice for all ages young and old.
Recommend for any addition to a nursery's library as well as a collector of Classic Children's Literature.

The stories were good but VERY dated. Not to mention one of them made no sense so I had to skip it. They are classics but I’m not sure I’d ever really want to reread and study this book or share it with family and friends. The only story I liked in it was The Tale of the Pie and Patty-Pan only because it was kind of clever. Highly recommend when looking for the classics, you look elsewhere like Alice in Wonderland.

I think this book was pretty good. This book is probably aimed for younger children around aged 0-6 years old even though I am 12 years of age I still enjoyed the book

Quaint, but unexciting for kids raised on contemporary children's literature.

Beatrix potter’s illustrations are truly magical.

This particular edition is by no means a complete collection of her work. It only includes 5 stories and some of story selections are not the best stories imho.

My only other complaint is that I had forgotten how many references there are to whipping (parents whipping their children for misbehaving) and of course the part about Peter rabbit’s father being baked in a pie. Traumatizing! Thank goodness my son is not really sentient yet
