He'd Always Wanted a Woman Like Her Independent, feisty Hester Vail craved passion, excitement, and a man who would fulfill her wildest fantasies. So when she was packed of to Ohio for having, once again, disgraced her dignified, upstanding family, she was exhilarated. Until she came face-to-face with Jack Wilmot, a "real" man of passion, desire and brute strength. Could she risk giving in to the desperate longings this strong, virile bruiser invoked? Or would she lose her hard-won freedom and her virtue to a scoundrel who would love her and leave her with just her dreams?
She'd Always Dreamed of a Man Like Him Having known little else but the violent, often savage, world of boxing, Jack Wilmot thought of women as vain, deceitful creatures who offered nothing more than a moment's pleasure. But when he encountered Hester Vail, the proper Bostonian with the honey-blond hair and incredible green eyes, he wanted more than just a night in her arms. To caress her soft, alluring curves and taste her sweet ruby lips was all he longed for, until his aching body demanded that even if it meant going to hell and back, he had to have her.
So I only read through pg 140, then skipped to the end...but I’ll count it as finished, because who cares? Boring MCs, boring motivations, boring descriptions—essentially, this was a boring romance. The plot (which made little sense to begin with) finally started picking up with some attempted rapes & a long-past murder intruding on the present, but by then I just didn’t GAF. Sometimes it’s too little, too late.
One thing I did like was that the heroine wrote penny dreadful novels & admired Louisa Alcott’s own ‘blood & thunder’ oeuvre (written under a pseudo, as the heroine’s were). Louisa’s sensational fiction is much overlooked & under-appreciated, so that much earned a thumbs up from yours truly. The rest...sorry. Nope. 😶
