This book is very informative and breaks stereotypes that Chinese people have only one holiday Chinese Lunar New Year. The book presents a plenty of holidays that are appreciated in China. In the introduction the author told that "China is a big country, with big differences in climate, geography and food. People of South have somewhat different holiday customs than people in the North. They also make different treats and special foods". You would find a lot of interesting and authentic facts about food, costumes, 100 Family Names, the Chinese zodiac and so on in the book. The book could help children to learn more about the Chinese culture. I would recommend it to use it in the classroom.

I liked the paintings a lot--they are done by local artists in two areas of China. Brightly colored and bold, they have a rustic sense of celebration of lots of people/ animals in on the action.

This was an informative kids' book. Delightful.
