This books explores why it is we believe what we believe about language, and why we persist in handing down from generation to generation a rag bag collection of fact and fantasy about language.
I'm enjoying this. But everything so far could have been said in at least half the pages. Still, I like the message: English is a living language, and notions that it is being tortured or debased or whatever, are at best somewhat ignorant of the way languages work.
