Chagall

Rate this book
One of a series of monographs introducing the work of 20th-century artists, this text is devoted to Marc Chagall. Chagall developed a romantic and personal naive style based on themes from Eastern European Jewish life and Russian and Jewish folklore. He was strongly influenced by the brilliant colours of Fauvism and by the new sense of space of Cubism.

Marc Chagall is my favorite 20th c artist and one of my best gifts ever was having the chance to see an extensive Chagall exhibit when I was visiting my cousins in France. Thanks Guy!
As an overview and bio sketch, it was pretty decent; though I do question some of the editorial choices in terms of picture placement and the pieces featured. I was surprised and disappointed that none of the fabulous pieces we have in Chicago were part of the selections.

This was a good way to be introduced to this artist. It is filled with a brief history and small tidbits, but focuses mainly on the art.
