Science Meets Religion ~ Most books on aromatherapy contain at least some information on the chemistry of essential oils. Some of them contain a lot while others only a little. Most of them are generally good in their chemistry presentations, however, not all such books should be recommended.

If you are a fan of holistic / natural healing and are drawn to essential oils, you should be aware of the quality of essential oil and oil-infused products you are using. Most contain toxic chemicals which defeat the purpose of holistic healing and / or eliminating toxic products from your lifestyle and your home. This book explains in terms that anyone can comprehend not only the chemistry of essential oils ~ it also discusses the origin of essential oils, which go as far back as biblical times. It's a fascinating book that I keep handy and refer to often!

This book is perfect for anyone who is again interested in taking control of their health. It is very interesting, even for someone like me who is not a fan of chemistry. I love the fact that God and His great plan are combined in this book to make it an uplifting experience.

I can only assume that this book has a high rating because the people rating it know nothing of science or reasoning. I am trained as an organic chemist and also a user of essential oils. Despite my use of essential oils, I found this book to be unethical and misleading. While much of the book contains accurate scientific information of the kind you might find in a science textbook, its claims related to oils are suspect. The book often uses scientific principles, but applies them out of context. For example, the notion that electrons are represented as probabilities is accurate, but to say that these same probabilities apply to how oils work is ludicrous. Then, the author goes further by claiming the intent of the user determines those probabilities! That leap in logic is not supported by science or even rational thought. The author repeatedly misleads the reader by citing evidence for scientific ideas and buttressing his opinion up against those facts implying that the whole book is well supported by evidence. It is not. In some places the author even misleads readers dangerously (e.g. Claiming that xylene in Myrrh is non-harmful after explaining all the poisonous effects of xylene).

Then, the author uses a clear misunderstanding of how science works (despite having a PhD in physics) to explain why we should not trust doctors and scientists.

When this kind of propaganda is spread, it makes the entire oils community look ridiculous. No wonder so many people dismiss essential oils as hokum without even trying them. Instead, let's admit the limitations of our ability to study oils scientifically. That's ok. Just because something isn't science, doesn't make it bad. However, when we try to make it science, we are guilty of pseudoscience and I don't blame people for calling "bullshit".

The first class I took with this book I was like, "Whao". But now that I have been through the class four times I think the application of this book is very important. I even bought my mom a copy...she is going to want to throw it at me when I give it to her! However, it has real practical things in there too1

The description of this book is not at all what the book is about. Not sure how that happened! It's the chemistry of essential oils. How is that a Sunday school lesson?!

Started reading this book and for the first time, I'm loving chemistry. I don't want anyone interrupting me when I have it in my hands. LOL
