Building Automation System Integration with Open Protocols

Rate this book
Written in partnership with NJATC.

Building Automation: System Integration with Open Protocols builds on a foundation of individual building system controls to describe the integration of these functions together into a cohesive building automation system with an open protocol. This textbook introduces intelligent control devices that can communicate over a common network. The overall theme of the book is interoperability, which is the ability of devices in different systems and from different manufacturers to work together.

The textbook reviews control strategies and data communication concepts, then focuses on the two leading open protocols for wired networks: LonWorks systems and BACnet systems. These protocols provide the frameworks that allow any control device to share control information with nearly any other device. Additional chapters cover the implementation of these technologies in common building automation scenarios, including issues concerning the integration of multiple protocols together in one system. The final chapter looks at trends in building automation that may affect the future of the industry.

The comprehensive CD included with the book includes:
* Quick Quizzes that provide an interactive review of key topics
* An Illustrated Glossary that defines terms and provides links to selected illustrations
* Media Clips that depict building automation scenarios in animated graphics

* Flash Cards that reinforce understanding of common industry terms and definitions
* Access to ATPeResources.com, an online source of variety of instructional resources
