This non-fiction book is all about Vikings. Vikings came from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark settling, trading, and raiding many lands. This book talks about the loyalty Vikings have to their families; they would fight to death for each other. Women were typically caretakers for the home and the children. Farming is how Vikings lived; all of their food came from their farms. They made ships for war and would use them to sail to other lands to raid and conquer so that land would become their own. Vikings were also explorers, looking to find new land as their land became worn and useless.

I would use this book to teach about detail in illustrations. As students write, they are encouraged to create illustrations to make their writing more interesting. They could use this book to see the detail in the drawings. Detail is an important aspect of illustrations because ultimately, illustrations will catch the eye of the reader. Hopefully students will take the details from the illustrations in this book and try to be more detailed in their own illustrations.
