Widely adopted by crafters of all persuasions, felting uses wool, water, and soap to create a thick, strong, and durable material---perfect for making a long-lasting bag. Combining a number of different felting techniques---wet felting, knitted felting, crocheted felting, and recycling---here are twenty-one colorful projects for truly stunning and fashionable bags you’ll want to use everyday. The Felted Bag Book also encourages your creativity with variations and ideas to adapt the projects to your individual style. In addition to felting, you learn how to embellish your bag with eye-catching motifs and trimming. The book starts with a section on the basics and covers different felting techniques, materials and tools required for each project. And with 250 full-color photographs and comprehensive step-by-step directions, these designs are as easy to create as they are gorgeous to look at!
I enjoyed this book. The author's original bag designs are lovely, and the photographs are well-done.
The general instructions and stepped-out instructions for each project are detailed and are user-friendly. There are many stepped-out photographs to give visual clues to readers. There is an assortment of blackline templates for the bags in the back matter of the book.
Most of the projects in the book require the maker to knit or crochet the basic bag and then wet felt it. In my favorite chapter, 'Recycling', the projects are made from recycled wool items such as sweaters and blankets. This makes the projects faster to make and encourages readers to reuse items they already have.
I borrowed this book from the local public library system.
I like the shapes of most of the bags, but most are to be knitted and then felted, and I don't knit. If there were templates to cut the bags out of already felted wool, I would be more likely to try these projects. Good information on felting, though.
