An authority on Renaissance literature and the life of John Milton, Barbara Josephine Lewalski was the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of English Literature and of History and Literature at Harvard University. She earned her B.S.E. at Emporia State University in 1950 her A.M. in 1951, and her PhD at the University of Chicago in 1956.
