UPDATE #2 of 2: 6/9/2011
Working on one's self-esteem is a process that initially has little to do with your outward appearance and everything to do with the state of their (spiritual) heart.

This past weekend, I returned from my doctorate graduation in New Jersey. During my trip - as time permitted, I read (or reread) highlighted portions on this book. Then on the very day that I returned home, I was "verbally attacked" by someone whom I thought was a friend. This reminds me of the words of a popular pastor who said: "It's when I am vunerable that's when my enemy comes. When I'm on low, my enemy shows up."

It's not as if the negative words uttered by this person wasn't something that I hadn't heard before from others, but it was delivered at a time when I was most vunerable. After spending months feverishly working to complete my degree and now that I have received it, I was at my lowest and their words crushed my spirit bringing me to tears.

I know that satan's job is to use those closest to you to keep you from accomplishing the purposes of God. So as you read this book, you will experience some highs and some lows in your journey toward a God-focused confidence. Yet it is during the low times when the enemy will appear. So in the meantime, prepare yourselves (Eph. 6:14-17).

Jackson (2009) even points out in her book, Through the Eyes of God:

Our enemies lie in wait to ambush us with the bitterness of their tongues, but God has guarded our hearts and minds from it. He [is] there to protect us when they [want] to terrorize us with fear and to keep us believing that we [will] never amount to anything. (p. 28)

[Instead] use your tongue to speak victory into your life because God has given you the power to take charge over the damages of the tongue. Use your mouthpiece to speak blessings into your life as well as the lives of others. (p. 18)

I'm just starting this book. After years of dodging the past, it's now time to deal with my self-esteem and self-confidence issues.

WHY NOW? - Because I want to not only REAP but also KEEP all that God has for me. It's quite hard to KEEP things when you knowingly or unknowingly SABOTAGING the good things that you do receive. Oftentimes, such behavior is due to feelings of unworthiness or inadequacy. I foresee that this book will shed some light on this subject, so stay tuned 'cause I will surely share more of my own insights on this subject! :)
