Nice read but probably only of interest to local readers. It's more of a long string of memories rather than a story. The book covers the long career of a high school basketball coach in a small town. It's nice to read about a long ago time when high school sports was the center of the universe for a small town, and men cared more about their players as people than athletes, and they coached generation after generation of players instead of moving from job to job for the money or the fame. I'm not native to the town, but having lived here for years, I recognized many of the names and places in the book. It was a little window into the past.
The book could have used some editing as sometimes the author repeats the same information in several different places. Reading about basketball games over and over (complete with stats) can get repetitive after a while.
Great read about my hometown of Perry, Georgia. A special place and more interesting history than most people realize. A few of my relatives mentioned in this book as well as some relatives of my friends.
