I’m not even sure a review of this book is appropriate. It feels like trying to be critical of a book of scripture. Perhaps a non-member would be better qualified to be objective.

This book is so detailed that it becomes numbing after awhile. Whole chapters will go by and you won’t know what happened (nor did anything happen, many times). I think that’s because they are not written as novels, or entertainment but as documentation. To a historian this book is invaluable. To somebody seeking deeper understanding of a point in church history that they know little about the same applies.

To an average reader looking for something interesting and fun to read, not so much.

Very detailed history of the church in 7 volumes. I've finished all 7 volumes which takes it thru to Winter quarters. Must read for all Latter-day Saints! thought it was a real page turner. the best part was that it was all original documents and accounts. A must for anyone serious about church history!!!

I can't say that this is a terribly entertaining book, but it is a good resource for knowing a bit more on the history surrounding the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants. Every Letter-day Saint should have it in their library, and study it every now and again, but it isn't a pleasure read.

covers the revelations 103 to 112. It covers the kirtland time period. Lots of letters back and forth. The thing I noticed the most is how obsessed joseph smith is about the weather. He mentions it every other journal entry. This may be an exaggeration. Also how he claims he is drying every time he gets a cold

Worth it for the narrative of Zion Camp and the calling/blessing of the 12 alone.

There should be six volumes to this set of books. Very insightful! I learned to better distinguish the different people that were involved with Joseph during this time. Many things in here that I did not know originally.

I have read this several times and enjoy reading about the history of our Church and all the many things that happened as related by the Prophet Joseph. Amazing. I am removing from my currently reading list as it is mostly a resource now.

Pretty detailed and sometimes too much so, but interesting to see what happened in the final months and weeks before Joseph Smith's martyrdom.
