Poems titled "Cowboys Down in Texas," "Kudzu," and "Candles in the Sky" evoke the innocence of childhood while recalling the wonderful traits of the region. State by state, award-winning author David Davis introduces young readers to a Louisiana belle, a Georgia peach, and Arkansas peanuts. You don't have to be from the South to enjoy several of these poems that are written with a Southern slant. Some poems are more fun than others but young children will enjoy having them read aloud. One thing to be aware of, however, is that there is a poem titled "Song of the Red Man" in reference to people of Native-American groups.
