This would have been pioneering and inspiring back in the early 70s when natural dyeing enjoyed a revival and reworking of indigenous knowledge. Joyce Lloyd's work is a little bit of NZ history and although many of the mordants she uses are not commonly used today (as now know to be toxic), it holds many clues and starting points for today's natural dyer to experiment with New Zealand plants. To my knowledge it may be the only book that has a section dedicated to our indigenous plant dye sources, please let me know if there are others.
