Traces the history of African American drama, gathers major plays by African American writers, and includes background information on each play and author
This is great. An anthology of plays that most Americans haven't even been exposed to. An example of Black people using media - the media of the day, as well as art, to protest. If you're an artist or playwright, I think this is a great addition to a library because it helps ground current artists in their Black literary ancestors. I am sure there are probably more in-depth anthologies of Black playwrights, but for me this was a solid introduction.
