Dude clearly was a suave political operator, buddy buds with Lord Chesterfield, and that shows through his writing style.
Unfortunately the topic of writing itself is real drudgery. All polemics and armchair philosophy. You can almost imagine the guy sitting in exile in a nice room fitted out with baroque furniture with too much time on his hands.
