I was a little disappointed by this book, as I was expecting more descriptions of the early championships in the U.S., and perhaps some more insight into the characters involved in the early game.
The book relied heavily on records from the early days of the U.S.G.A. and the Royal and Ancient, which is still interesting, but, being a golf fanatic, I was hoping for more golf, and more of the characters that played the game.
I did find the author's discussions about course design particularly fascinating. Very enjoyable.
