Morrison’s book lays out a phenomenal argument about French cultures role in today’s increasingly globalized world. He takes into consideration the many different facets of what culture is and can be and addresses many of the counterclaims he has received in the past.
All that being said, Morrison takes a hardcore academic approach to his arguments and throws number after number after number at you. So much so that I would not be surprised if this book was in some academic journal somewhere. Although this book was not for me, the arguments themselves make sense, are explored in depth, and speak honestly and openly. Morrison definelty did his research. I would recommend it this book if you have an academic interest in studying culture, specifically France in relation to the world.
I read the romanian translation and after going with difficulty through the bunch of numbers Morison threw in for the sake of proving his purpose, I was amused by the fact that the romanian writer, Horia Patapievici, that wrote the endnote to the book, managed to summarize and deconstruct it by proving how the author failed in its quest, and he did all of this in 5 pages.
