3.75⭐️rounded to 4 for this app.

I received this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 1st I’ve read from this author. I admit the premise is a different take on the vampire and zombie genres, but the main character Dorian has got to be one of the dumbest vampires in existence. Over the course of 3 books, he habitually makes bad decisions and almost gets “killed” at every turn. He screws those over that tries to help him and seems more concerned with his appearance and clothes than with surviving the zombie apocalypse. I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st book, but as the trilogy went on it seemed to be the same scenarios on repeat. I do have some other works by Jay Bower and look forward to giving those a try.

Vampires and Zombies oh my. Jay Bower is the one who knows how to write them tastefully!

Dead Blood Book 1: Jay has set the pace wonderfully and built a beautiful overrun zombie world for us. I love that we as the reader don’t know what caused the zombie apocalypse yet just that we’re thrown into it and have to learn to survive just like our MC Dorian.

Dead Blood Book 2: Book 2 in this series just keeps the punches going as Dorian is faced with not only the zombies but now the Nightwalkers as he’s trying to find his brood and facing hardships at every turn he makes.

Dead Blood Book 3: Jay has blown me away with the final and most impactful book in the Dead Blood Series. As we still follow Dorian in his fight for his (Un)dead life, we see the commitment and determination he has held onto through all three books. The finale battle left me speechless!

Dorian was seriously not prepared to wake up to a world of competition. I’m going to be frank, I’m not a zombie fan. I break my poor father’s heart every time I say they’re boring or stupid.
Jay. Thank you for mixing up the trope and giving me another dead guy to focus on in the story. Dorian isn’t even a typical vampire, which really made my heart swell. I will say, he needs to take a class in decision quality, but it was refreshing to see tropes clash and having some unique trade offs presented.
We also get a perspective on what lengths humans may go to in order to survive with the undead-flesh eating or bloodsucking. Where does human decency go? That question goes a long way and in many different directions in Dead Blood.
If you like zombies, or vampires, or both… give the series a read!

The Dead Blood trilogy is a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse trope. In a world where the undead are now dominant, how does one who lives on fresh blood survive? This is the question Dorian must answer, after the vampire awakes from his long rest to a world he longer recognizes. The series takes you along on Dorian’s journey as he learns how to navigate a new world where the undead roam freely and blood is scarce. There are glimpses into his past and you learn much about the vampire and what has made him who he is. In his search for his brood, Dorian meets many people along the way, both friend and foe. I’m not normally a fan of traditional zombie stories, but I do like vampire tales, so this mash-up was perfect for me, and Dorian is now one of my favorite vampires in literature. I highly recommend this series!

I was so excited to finally find a book like this. I can't imagine how hard it is to write a book. But I felt I was very generous with my rating. Dorian was annoying, I felt he was more of a fledgling vampire than one 150 years old. He made many many stupid mistakes and he was more worried about his wardrobe than zombies. I wish he did have more super human strength instead of just healing and long life. I found book 3 to be the better out of the series. I'm still going to recommend this book.

Dead Blood

I really enjoyed this series. It was completely different from any other zombie or vampire stories I've read. The only thing is that I felt that I was missing book 1 or/and 2. I would have really liked to have started with the beginning of how the vampires came to be how Dorian's life started and how the apocalypse started. 🤷

The first book was the slower in plot i think, it took month to finish, the secon and third? Only a couple of days.. it's a trope i've never read and it's intrigued from the beginning and it's was really really good.

Why is this guy so obsessed with writing about sexual assault?? Istg almost every female character has had an attempted or implied rape scene. Even the kid. It’s WEIRD and completely unnecessary. They add absolutely nothing to the plot and just make the author look like a creep.

Good, easy read. Creative for as far as zombie apocalypse stories go but does get predictable and repetitive. It is a quick read though so worth the time if you come across it.
