In finding each other, will they lose themselves? Paramedic Lance Patterson knows you can’t save everyone. Still, when he notices an injured dog limping along the outskirts of a car accident, he decides that maybe he can save just one more. A visit to the vet and a big bill later, Lance has another problem—the beautiful veterinary assistant that he can’t get out of his head. But even if he could get her to remember his name, he’s not sure that now is the time for love. After all, he’s got an unexpected new dog, a demanding job, and a mother who’s recovering from a recent stroke. Becca Williams has plans much different than her life as a veterinary assistant, or her sister’s editing assistant, or any kind of assistant at all. The truth is that she likes helping people, and she’s good at it. Still, it’s time to pull away from her hyper-successful, animal-loving family and find her own way. Which doesn’t involve any hot paramedics, especially of the puppy-rescuing variety. But when Lance needs help teaching his dog to use her paw fully again, how can she say no? A little time leads to a lot, and soon Becca is being pulled away from her dreams. Again. And Lance is sure he can save everything. Again. When is it time to let go, and when is it time to hold on?
A limping dog on the side of the road of an accident is destined to go home with Lance Patterson, the paramedic who arrives at the scene. Lance names the dog, Maverick and takes him to the vet. It also seems like fate that he is to fall in love with Becca, the veterinarian's assistant. Simple? Not exactly. There are always complications. Reminiscent of The Art of Racing in the Rain and The Accidental Tourist, two of my favorite books. I would highly recommend this book if you love animals, especially dogs, and a feel-good story.
From Asphalt is a stand-alone book. Do not be put off by the ridiculous name .. focus on the cute puppy on the cover. Mavarick is the star of this book.
Lance and Becca both seem like ok characters but I just didn’t get the dynamic between them. They both adore the cute, injured stray dog and wanted to help so that is the only reason I kept reading.
This book is overly descriptive at times which detracts from the story. It is a nice easy to read book.
Maverick the dog is too freaking cute. Why did this give Art of Racing in the Rain with a hint of Marley and Me in the story development! I love Lance and Becca but it just seemed too easy of ‘fate’ if that makes sense? Definitely got me emotional either way!
I do want to thank J.E. for sending me the Ebook and note that all opinions/thoughts above are my own!
This was a wonderful read about two people trying to figure out how to be content with their lives and the dog that shows up to help them both do just that. Heartfelt and poignant, it will keep you wanting to turn the pages.
I really enjoyed it. A sweet story about two people finding themselves and each other with the help of a rescue puppy. Nice storyline with interesting, well thought out characters.
No billionaire heroes. No heroines that look like models. Just two flawed ordinary people who find love while experiencing personal growth. Oh, and a cute dog that helps.
This was such a sweet story with a bonus happy ending. The story was likeable and easily followed. I would recommend this as a "quick read" or "love story."
Clean romance book which also includes a story about a dog named Mavervick. The two main characters are each trying to figure out what they want in life and not what others want for their lives.
