This guide is a commonsense approach to the challenging art of parenting. It is an offer of genuine suppport and guidance to encourage parents to believe in themselves and their children. The book helps parents gain a deeper understanding of parenting children from both a practical and holistic, spiritual perspective. It posits suggestions and useful insights into ways of bypassing the inevitable hurdles of parenting without compromising the enjoyment of the process.
Okay, so the cover is cheesy. And, the writing is rocky in the beginning. But, this is a wonderfully profound book. I read the entire thing with pen in hand, underlining sentences and starring the margins. It's that good. I have read countless parenting books (and lots of other nonfiction, for that matter) that go on for three hundred pages, endlessly repeating the same information - forcing me to skim and skip to the good parts. This is not one of those books. It is concise (126 pages) and meaningful and presents a refreshingly simple concept: that by connecting with our own spirits, we are better able to discover and honor who our children are. It is a powerful reminder that we are here to guide and understand our children - not force them to bend to our wills. It also shows that parents do not have to choose between domineering or permissive parenting styles. When we connect with our own spirits and honor our children's, we see our children more clearly and encourage them to become healthy and loving children, adolescents and (most importantly) adults. I highly recommend this book.
