This is the best companion study guide for a quick resource for a forest language that I’ve read. The concept of this book is not to be a fluent speaker of French, but to enable the reader to survive any daily situation that might come up by simply sticking to the context of that circumstance. It includes topics such as transportation, lodging, shopping etc. Each of these contextual situations are located within their own chapter, which is appropriately named. There are even emergency type situations included such as finding a doctor or dentist. I totally recommend this book, as it lacks the most punch with the least amount of effort.
This fairly short guide of 194 pages packs an enormous amount of information on learning French. Everything is laid out logically and is easy to move through. As the author states, “The more vivid the image, the more likely we are to remember it.” And so it is with this great reference guide. We get a basic understanding of French pronunciations and accents as well as the IPA transcription system. The IPA transcription is a standardized way to write speech sounds in any language. This was by far the most helpful tool I have experienced when learning another language. Excellent book!
