For years, one of my constant companions was Lawrence Santoro. He's the one who introduced me to 'Twilight Tales'--at once the publisher of (often comic) horror fiction and the sponsor of regular gatherings of writers and their fans at the old Red Lion Pub in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. He's the one who set me up as a proofreader of their publications, in exchange for which I got copies of their books, free admission to their events and enough money to buy a pint or two during them. Consequently, my 'reading' of this collection antedates the publication of the book.
Like most collections, particularly those containing the works of many authors, the quality of the whole is difficult to estimate. It becomes more difficult when one happens to be acquainted with some of the authors personally. (For example, I think Santoro is a brilliant writer and reader, but then he's also a good cook and this may cloud my judgment). In fact, I liked some stories very much while others left me cold.
