Project Gutenberg ebook fed into ElevenReader AI text to voice audio book app. (Swear this app is my best find for the whole year 2026.) Read to me by "Sebastian - Bold and Gravitas". (John Wayne available too, but just wouldn't have fit the material) all that aside - this book was fantastic. Reads more like steam punk than true history. If you are at all interested in the history of lighter than air flight and early aeronautics this is an amazing place to start. Holy crap the stakes were high literally and figuratively. So many scientific breakthroughs and record breaking feats told from first person reports in many cases. "And his companions fell out of the basket cold with their mouths full of blood" .... aaaand that led to subsequent aeronauts taking better oxygen systems with them ...... get the full experience and have Sebastian or "Edward - British dark and seductive" - read it to you.
