When Tales Get Twisted crazy things happen to our beloved classics.
When Catpunzel, a golden-haired kitten, is abandoned by her parents, a mysterious tabby named Gothel swoops in and adopts the child. Everything seems wonderful, but when Catpunzel befriends a boy named Tom, she sees a different side of Gothel ̶ a side that will go to extraordinary lengths to keep her locked in her tower forever.
Redmoon Chase learns that her Nana is ill and volunteers to bring her a basket of goodies. When Red arrives at her Nana’s house, she finds a big, bad real estate developer holding Nana hostage. Red must use her wits to save the cottage, her grandmother, and herself.
After being forced to move to Pennsylvania with her wicked stepmother, Whitney Snow finally escapes. She is befriended by a pack of seven, scraggly dogs who can speak human. Will Whitney’s cunning, and the magical mutts’ bravery be enough to thwart her stepmother’s plot for revenge?

My wife and I are constantly looking for new books to read/ be read by our granddaughters. I had read Laurel Kile’s “Allegheny Front” (5 stars) and wondered what she would do with a children’s book. She knocked it out of the park! I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but the cover is beautiful and foretells the “twisted tales” contained within.
First, we start with “Catpunzel” a “purrfect” rendition of the Rapunzel story currently popularized by the “Tangled” movie. The kids will be familiar with the story but appreciate the twist.
The next twisted tale is “Red Riding in the Hood”. Here author Kile uses the age-old story to lampoon some modern-day stereotypes. Don’t worry, good wins in the end and most of the serious parodies will be above the head of the younger reader.
The final tale, “Whitney Snow” is my favorite. A terrific re-imaging of the Snow-White story. I won’t spoil the story but to say that good wins over evil and the kids learn the importance of being “pure at heart.”
I look forward to more works from Ms. Kile.

A whimsical, clever, and inclusive retelling of fairy tales, When Tales Get Twisted gives new life to traditional stories. Magical and captivating, it's bound to be a hit for children and adults alike.
