Millie Lester receives an early morning phone call from her charming but feckless ex-husband when the call is cut short by what she thinks is a gun shot. When the police are unable to find any evidence of a crime she takes it upon herself to look into what has happened to Jonas. I've been a fan of Mary McMullen's books for years and this book is no exception. You are left unsure about what has happened to Jonas, is he manipulating Millie, has he just gone away with a lover or has something happened to him and just how dangerous will it be for Millie to find out? An enjoyable read.
